Let's Talk Politics!

I can hear the grumbles already.
I KNOW politics is not a topic lots of people care to get very involved with.
Usually if you enjoy politics you're very opinionated about your stand.
I used to not care.
I used to just vote for what Kameron or my mom voted for.

But, as I've grown older and learned more and more about the government and how it's run, I've realized how important it is for me to be informed about each candidate, what they stand for, what they promise and their values.

So, read with me if you want, comment if you wish ...

This next comment may lose me some friends, but it's worth it.

I am a very conservative Republican.
I don't, and won't, ever cross the line to the Democratic side.
I don't understand how people can stand for the things that Democrats stand for.

Let me give you some examples. These following things are just some of the things that Barrack Obama stands for and supports ...

· He voted for partial birth abortion.
· He voted no on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions.
· Supports affirmative action in Colleges and Government (quotas)..
· In 2001 he questioned harsh penalties for drug dealing as being too severe.
· Says he will deal with street level drug dealing as minimum wage affair.
· Admitted his use of marijuana and cocaine in high school and in college.
· His religious convictions are very murky.
· He is willing to meet with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung Il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
· Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a conference with all Muslim Nations
· Opposed the Patriot Act.
· First bill he signed that was ever passed was campaign finance reform.
· Voted to allow law suits against gun manufacturers.
· Supports universal health-care.
· Voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees.
· Supports granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.
· Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants.
· Voted yes on comprehensive immigration reform.
· Voted yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.
· Wants to make the minimum wage a ’living wage’.
· Voted with Democratic Party 96 percent of 251 votes. (241 votes Demo, 10 votes Republican)
· Is a big believer in the separation of church and state.
· Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid into Soc. Sec. [Tax Increase.]
· He voted No on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax which now hits middle income brackets.
· He voted No on repealing the ’Death’ Tax. [Tax Increase.]
· He wants to raise the Capital Gains Tax. [Tax Increase.]
· Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded...which is not true.
· He is ranked as the most liberal Senator in the Senate today and that takes some doing.

I'll admit, I don't understand some of things and I can't guarantee the honestly of all of it but, there are a few that outrage me regardless.

1st thing ...

Partial Birth Abortion.
Some may choose to skip over this, I encourage you to read it if you can handle it, I want to let you know what Partial Birth Abortion is. Remember, Obama supports this:

When the partial birth abortion procedure is done, the baby is born at 20-23 weeks. Keep in mind, parents usually find out what the sex of their baby is around 20 weeks. This means when this procedure is done they know wether it will be a boy or a girl. Hmmm. After the baby is born, they inject him or her with a chemical that will slowly kill them. Then, do you think the birth-mom holds him? What about the doctors? Nurses? No ... nobody holds this poor, premature, chemically injected child. They take this brand new baby, who is fighting for their life, and drop them off in the dirty linen closet and wait for them to die before taking them to the morgue. It can take anywhere from minutes to hours. Is this something you want to be going on in our country?? It will if Obama is elected into office.

2nd thing ...

Obama's stand on drug charges
Is it just me, or do the drug problems in this country seem to be at an ultimate high? I'm constantly seeing commercials re: meth, marijuana, cocaine, and even perscription drugs on television. Or the billboards all over our highways with pictures of meth users? It's obvious that something needs to be done about how readily available drugs are to anyone who wants them.

How can we control this problem when the Democratic nominee for President wants to decrease the punishments that are given to those dealing illegal drugs on the streets? Or possibly just pushing these problems aside? How is that going to help this national problem of teenage illegal drug use?

3rd thing ...

Illegal Immigrants.
Maybe this only worries me because I live in Arizona and I see the immediate affects of having illegal immigrants in our country. I do want to put out there that, I have NO problem with people from other countries coming into our country the LEGAL way, it's those who do it illegally that I have a hard time being okay with.

Let me tell you an experience I had with illegal immigrants. A few weeks ago, we were in Mesa and we had gotten a hotel room just down the road from the Mesa Temple. Those of you who have ever been to this temple know that it's not the nicest part of town but, there are residential areas surrounding it. Elderly couples, young children & full grown families are sure to live in those homes.
As we were leaving to come home we drove past some of these communities and standing on every corner were 3-5 (sometimes more) illegal Mexican immigrants waiting to be picked up for a job that day. In fact, we saw one guy pick up 2 of them. This got me thinking, if these illegals are standing on these corners, those same corners where young children play, that means somewhere nearby is a drop house, a house full of people who are by no means safe. I for one would NOT want my family to live in a neighborhood filled with these type of people. Seeing this actually scared me. It made me wonder if democrats are oblivious to these problems. How can they not be concerned about these people coming into our country?!

Further more, how can Obama support giving these same people drivers licenses?! Welfare?! Social Security?! Our tax dollars going to support people who aren't even US citizens?? Gee, something about that just doesn't seem right to me! Maybe we need to bring Obama to AZ and let him spend the night in a neighborhood with drop houses and coyotes, think that will open his eyes?? I don't send my husband off to work everyday to work 8-12 hour days just so that ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS can live comfortably in our country.

I encourage each and every one of you to get imformed about what each candidate stands for. I am a huge fan of Sarah Palin, but that's a whole other post for a late time.

Get out there, listen to the speeches, read up on the values of each person, and educate yourself about the person you want to run our country.

Oh, one more thing that drives me crazy, those people that don't vote and then complain about how this country is being run. So...

Go!
Educate!
and most importantly ....

VOTE!

Oh man I so agree with you. I have been very interested in this campaign season and have done a lot of research on the candidates. I too am a definite republican and can not believe that so many people are fooled by Obama. Hopefully people can open their eyes and see what someone like him would really do to the country.

Jami, you gave me chills! I could not agree with you more. It scares me that this man actually has a chance at getting elected! Thanks for helping spread the word.

And McCain cheated on his wife and divorced her and Palin wasn't present as a mother and her daughter got pregnant. Either way, we're screwed, but I'd rather not have four more years like the last 8, so Obama it is.

I wonder if Doug knows Sarah Palin personally that gives him the knowledge to say that she was not present as a mom and that is why her daughter got pregnant.

I do not like endorsing any candidate/President who is or has had an affair, that includes the likes of Edwards, JFK, and Clinton too, or has Doug conveniently forgotten about the Dem's who cheat.

I am a staunch Republican as well and "shudder" everytime I think of what if...

Thank you for this post. I honestly hate politics. They bore me, or maybe I'm just too "flighty" to understand how to follow them, but you seem to break down the issues to my level, LOL

I've had a bad feeling about Obama from day one. Not sure is it was listening to my husband, father or brother in law, or even my Mom, but either way, I know where my vote is going!

And to Doug, I certainly do not want to promote adultry, but honestly...that has NOTHING to do with running our country. I'm quite sure he was saying that when Clinton was having his fun in office, right?

I saw let's focus on the political issues not the personal ones.

This is my first time reading your blog, but from the sound of this post, I think we could be the bestest of friends! I agree with you 100%. Obama scares me. I probably wouldn't be so scared of him getting elected if the Republicans still had control of Congress, but they don't.

Illegal immigration is a problem I deal with constantly, too, as I live in southern Florida where a lot of tomatos and strawberries are grown and picked. These people who say that they haven't commited any crimes by being here must not know what the word illegal means.

Anyhow, I could go on and on, but I won't. Just wanted to say that I totally agree with you and LOVED this post.

Thank you for giving me a lot to think about and I think the most important part of your message is at the very end. VOTE!!

@lane boyz mom: No, I think Clinton should have been impeached. I think personal ethics and morality have EVERYTHING to with the kind of president you are and your ability to lead a country. I don't vote by party, I vote by who I feel is the best candidate (or the least of two evils as we've had the last 2 elections -- and perhaps this one as well).

@debbie y: IMHO, I think if a girl gets pregnant as a teenager it's definitely the parents that have dropped the ball. You can teach "abstinence", but you also need to teach "responsibility". Unfortunately, Paliin's daughter didn't have the info in order to make the decision to use birth control. That's something mother's should REALLY discuss with their daughters and father's with their sons. Not doing so is a disservice.

As far as republicans having affairs v.s. democrats having affairs. I never implied that one side was worse than the other. They're both as slimy. I totally supported Clinton getting impeached, as I would any president who exhibited this behavior.
