I have been thinking alot lately about ways to be more frugal.
With the economy the way it is and not very much of
this

money Pictures, Images and Photos

to go around.
I'm realizing how important it is for me to stretch our dollar even further.

Here are some ideas I've come up with to save us some money...

* I am planning on making my own laundry detergent ("recipe" found here)
and, using homemade cleaning supplies.

* I need to start getting coupons again (and actually using them!!!)

* I definately need to make more home-cooked meals and less "from the box" meals.

* I am amazed at some of the deals people find at consignment or thrift stores ... I want to start making regular visits!!

What are some of the things YOU do to live frugally and save a little extra money?

Jami, I go to the thrift store on the corner of college and the highway every Monday morning. They open at 10:00 and you want to get there soon after that because things go fast. They get a new load in of things from Phoenix every weekend, so it's all laid out on Monday. I bought a few decorations there for CHEAP!

Cloth diapers. :) We have some great thrift stores here, and I get lots of my kids' clothes and almost all their shoes (we always find nice, name brand little kids' shoes for like $3 - even Wal-mart is too expensive for something they grow out of so fast!) at the thrift stores. We have "buying freezes" sometimes where we don't buy anything we don't actually need for weeks or (once) even 3 months at a time.

HMM I have been trying to do the same thing. It is very difficult when you are use to haveing plenty for so many years. What I do is I try not to go to the store. I know that sounds silly but if you dont go you dont spend money. So no going just to look around. I have saved alot doing this.

make your own bread, and grow your own veggies. Those are huge money savers for us :)

I've been doing a lot of "couponing" lately and have been able to cleaning supplies, toothpaste, razors, shampoo, etc for less than a dollar each, sometimes free! It's awesome. I know some great blogs that help. Let me know if you want me to email you some links!

for groceries:when something goes on sale that i use i buy extra and remember that coupons can make you spend more...sometimes the off brand is still cheaper! store brands are just as good or better product than name brand food.

two things i've done:
1. when coooking dinner, make two of every casserole, and freeze one. it's a lot cheaper to make two once you've already bought all the ingredients.
2. buy turkey burger instead of hamburger. it is like one third the price. not as yummy, but works great! healthier too. :)
